This is a good one. My friend had a temporary ileostomy a while back and he was eating dinner with relatives and got up to go to the bathroom and an ole' bitty at the table said, "you can't use OUR toilet." He said, "why not?" Her reply, "Well, you can't be flushing that stuff of yours down the toilet...it will ruin the plumbing!" |

My daughter, 32 also has CD, and she said after I had my ileo surgery 7 years ago, "I'd die beore I get a bag" So I told her, you're right, you will. I'm alive only because of my ileo. |

My all time favorite was from an internist who insisted on doing a physical for all new patients. After doing a fairly thorough exam he sent me a follow- up letter with test results and recommendations. Among the recs: Annual colonoscopy. |

The stupidest thing I've heard so far was while I was in hospital. I was having really bad gas pains and cramping and my nurse told the doctor she thought it might have been appendicitis. You would think a nurse would know that if you're in hospital after a proctocolectomy, that the doc probably took out your appendix too, seeing as it's located on your colon. Second dumbest thing was I went for a physical to a new doctor. I had just finished explaining that I had had my rectum removed as part of my surgery...she told me she was going to to a prostate check. I stumped her when I asked her how she was going to manage that |

I had something similar. Just after my surgery, my surgeon came round with a couple of young, attractive, female medical students. In order for them to get a better look at his sewing up of my butt (of which he was very proud, quite justifiably), he got the nurse to shine a torch up there! |
